A Town Steeped in History

Tramore, meaning โ€œBig Strandโ€ in Irish, has a long and fascinating history dating back to the early Viking era. Originally a small fishing village, the town gained prominence in the 19th century as a popular seaside resort. Tramoreโ€™s most famous landmark, the Metal Man, was erected in 1823 as a navigational aid after the tragic wreck of the Sea Horse, a British transport ship that sank off the coast in 1816. Over time, the town became a hub for maritime activity, leisure, and tourism, drawing visitors who were captivated by its dramatic coastline and golden beach.
